Liebherr offers a well-balanced programme of hydraulic wheeled and crawler excavators ranging from 10 to 670 tonnes service weight. They feature engines with an output of up to 2,240 kW (3,000 hp) and can be equipped with buckets with a capacity of up to 34 m³ and more. These hydraulic excavators are used worldwide in civil engineering, industrial material handling, tunnelling, hydraulic engineering, demolition and in the mining industry.
In Shanghai the display includes three crawler excavators of Liebherr’s Chinese manufacturing site in Dalian: the models R 914 B Litronic, R 934 B Litronic and R 944 B Litronic. Furthermore the wheeled A 924 C material handler is shown at the Liebherr booth on Bauma China 2008.
Liebherr crawler excavators manufactured in China
Liebherr has been manufacturing the R 914 B Litronic, which weighs in at around 25 tonnes, in a standardised version for the Chinese market for more than four years. The excavator exhibited at Bauma China 2008 is driven by an emissions-optimized, water-cooled 4-cylinder Liebherr diesel engine with direct injection, turbocharger and intercooler, giving it an output of 112 kW (152 hp) at 2,000 rpm.
The R 914 B Litronic is fitted with heavy-duty HD-SL tracks, which ensure a high level of stability. The width between the tracks is 2,400 mm and the tracks themselves are 600 mm wide. The working attachments consist of a 5.7 m long gooseneck boom, a 2.4 m stick and a heavy-duty backhoe bucket with a capacity of 1.0 m³. The cutting width is 1,250 mm. Steel castings are used at every pivot point to ensure that the attachments are consistently able to withstand the toughest demands.
The R 914 B is one of the most popular excavators worldwide.
The operator’s cabin is optimised to take advantage of ergonomic know-how, and equipped for comfort and convenience. The excavator can be operated easily and accurately at the electro-hydraulic controls. Maintenance work is undertaken simply and quickly at highly accessible service points. On account of its efficiency and dependability, the R 914 B is one of the most popular excavators worldwide.
Another exhibit built by Liebherr in Dalian is the R 934 B Litronic crawler excavator with an operating weight of about 30 tonnes. It is powered by a water-cooled four-cylinder diesel engine with turbocharged and charge-air intercooler developing 145 kW (197 hp) at 2,000 rpm. The working attachment of the excavator on display consists of a 6.05 m gooseneck boom, a 2.50 m stick and a backhoe bucket with 1.45 m3 capacity. As an option, the R 934 B Litronic can be fitted with a 3.10 m stick. The HD-SL heavy-duty undercarriage of this excavator has a track gauge of 2,600 mm.
The largest model of the Dalian production line is the 40-tonne crawler excavator R 944 B Litronic, which is also on display at Bauma China 2008. This excavator has a wide variety of applications. It can be used for mass earthmoving work on large building sites, but is also ideally suited to material handling, dismantling of old buildings, hydraulic engineering and operation on mining sites.
The R 944 B Litronic is fitted with a water-cooled, turbocharged and intercooled 180 kW (245 hp) six-cylinder diesel engine.
The R 944 B Litronic is fitted with a water-cooled, turbocharged and intercooled 180 kW (245 hp) six-cylinder diesel engine. The components of the drive system are of Liebherr’s own manufacture, including the engine, travel and slewing gear drives, hydraulic pumps and cylinders, and are designed to complement each other perfectly. The R 944 B Litronic’s heavy, stable HD-SL undercarriage has a track width of 2,600 mm, using track plates 600 mm wide. Options for the backhoe attachment with 6,30 m gooseneck boom are sticks with 2.60 m or 3.30 m length and buckets with 1.95 m³ capacity.
A 924 C industrial excavator for high handling capacity
Another Bauma China excavator exhibit is the Liebherr A 924 C Litronic material handler. This machine is powered by a Liebherr diesel engine developing 135 kW (184 hp) at 1,800 rpm. With its extremely strong undercarriage supported on pads, this machine has excellent stability and can lift and transfer loads in quick succession requiring the full use of its available power.

The A 924 C Litronic can be supplied with a 6.80 m or 7.80 m long monobloc industrial boom or a gooseneck version 6.50 m long. Industrial-pattern dipper sticks 4 m, 5 m or 6 m long are available. The working attachments include suitably modified bulk-material grabs, orange-peel grabs and grabs for tree-trunks and timber. An electromagnet system can also be installed, for example to handle steel scrap. As an option, the operator’s cab is available with a continuously variable height adjustment.
